RUBBER EXPANSION JOINTS

Rubber expansion joints are manufactured from natural or synthetic elastomers, technical textiles and metal reinforcement. Molded expansion joint may not replace metallic joint in every application. Flexibility of this type of material is good to use in many applications stressed by high-mechanical vibrations.

Installting an expansion joint helps to reduce movements, absorb noise and dampen “water hammer”.

Its use is also interesting for resistance in corrosive and abrasive environment.

This is the only one above metallic and fabric expansion joints adapted to liquid fluid transport for which installations are regularly cleaned.

COMPOSITION

  • The structure of the rubber expansion joint can be strengthened with fabrics particles and if necessary with metal reinforcement.

  • The inner layer is made of synthetic of natural rubber. This is a sealing internal protective tube, made without welding extending through the bore to the outside edges of the flanges.

  • External layer of the joint is formed from natural or synthetic rubber, depending on service requirements. The primary function of this part is to protect the internal structure from outside damage or abuse.

  • Wire reinforcement is possible, it will be a binder between internal and external layers. Fabric inserts give more flexibility.

  • Metallic reinforcement by metal ring or massive steel ring can be embedded in the joint structure in order to strengthened members of the joint.
  • Tie-rods can be a good option to facilitate the transport and/or installation. They are also a good alternative to minimize extreme elongation or compression.
