Fabric expansion joints are applied in ducts transporting air, fumes and gases, even if they are containing solid parts. They are made out of one or more layers of “technical” fabrics and used in installations like thermal power plants, waste incineration, ovens in general, industrial boilers, cement plants, ventilation, etc. Of course, the list is not restrictive.

Unlimited" expansion"

Fabric expansion joints are able to resist to temperatures up to 1200°C (2190 °F) and particularly aggressive fluids.
Per definition, fabric is particularly flexible and the expansion joint will be made out of more or less layers regarding to the applications. Each layer has its own role to play. They are always “tailor made” items and therefore can be adapted to almost any situation.


Which type, what shape, what composition?


What kind of installation, "flat" shaped or "U" shaped

  • The type of installation: it can be "flat" shaped or "U" shaped.
  • "Closed" delivery ? Or should it be closed on site and with "open" delivery ?
  • Drilling or not ?
  • Which movements have to be compensated? Axial, lateral, angular…
  • Temperature? Pressure? Continuous and when starting up.
  • Which movements have to be compensated? Axial, lateral, angular…
  • What type of flow? Acid, alkaline, clean or dirty?

Answers to these questions give us crucial and even indispensable information to be able to make you the best proposal for the most suitable fabric expansion joint. Of course an accompanying draw would be excellent.

The "U" shaped type is generally used in simple situations, directly mounted on the duct flanges. They might be "multilayer" but are not suited for temperatures above 400°C (750°F). They are often delivered in "closed" situation (both ends glued or welded together). Almost any qualified maintenance worker is able to do the installation.

The “flat” shaped type is less expensive in production and indispensable in situations including high pressures and the use of an isolation bolster. Installation on the flanges or the duct is however a little more complicated and demands more experienced personal. Of course, when needed, you can always count on our own qualified staff for the mounting or supervision. ( see "outsourcing").

Tailor made" expansion joints

Fabric expansion joints are not only unlimited in the size or shape of their production. Internal and external circumstances will make us modify and propose the appropriate combination of different existing fabrics. This is the result of decades of experience. Whether it is as protection, isolation or tightness, every fabric has its own role to play in the combination of proposed fabrics of a “multilayer” compensator. High temperature installation

If our compensators resist to extremely high temperatures, it is not just because of the exceptional good resistance of our fabrics. Sometimes, the inside temperature has to be reduced by the installation if an isolation bolster. The bolster will reduce the temperature of the flow before it reaches the outside cover designed to assure the tightness. Be convinced we will always offer you the most suitable solution.

The "full-mounted" solution

Although in many cases expansion joints are mounted directly on ducts or flanges, sometimes specific conditions request specific attention to the way of mounting and the design of the supporting metal parts. High temperatures requesting installation of isolation bolsters, solid parts or starting pressures requesting inside deflectors, many elements may influence and require a specific building of the metal parts supporting the expansion joint.
